Let's Get "Downtown Ready"!

Attention on Downtown Klamath Falls (and Klamath County in general) from outside investors, visitors, and convention travelers is increasing. That's great news, but it comes with some responsibility if we want to become a respected host!

As examples, the following are large events that we are aware of, and will take place in and around Downtown:

• Third Thursday (June, July, August)
• Kruise of Klamath (June 25)
• Oregon Main Street State Conference (October 5-7)
• Oregon Mayors Conference (summer 2024)
• Other potential conventions and large meetings

These events, along with large construction and renovation projects are starting to grow the snowball of attention on our area - now's the time to make sure we're putting our best foot forward!

Downtown Klamath Falls is in great shape - our residents, employees, property owners and business owners take great pride in presenting a community that is welcoming to visitors. With the number of Downtown-focused events increasing, we now have an opportunity to fine-tune our presentation and practice being "Downtown Ready!"

We'll share more info on how we can work together to do that fine tuning, but here are some general things to consider that might take a bit longer to finish:

• Is your storefront in good shape? Does it need a fresh coat of paint or some minor repairs?
• Are your display windows/doors attractive, or could they use some freshening up to best take advantage of an influx of foot traffic? What about the actual displays inside your storefront (even non-retail businesses can benefit from well-prepared window displays)? If you need some inspiration or guidance, contact us - we have resources that can help!
• Is your signage in good shape? Is it attractive? Does it "pop"? Do you need to replace a temporary vinyl banner or wooden sign with more permanent signage?
• Do you regularly sweep/clean in front of your business or property? City staff sweeps streets and cleans sidewalks from time to time, but what about in-between or after a wind storm? (For our part, we are committed to birddogging when necessary to make sure property owners are getting the most out of our EID and our Downtown is well-maintained)
• Are there issues with public property around or in front of your business or property? If so, contact the appropriate City department (or contact KFDA and we can get you to the right place!)
• Are your business hours adapted during large events? Opening early and/or staying open late when Downtown is full of visitors not only creates a vibrant atmosphere, but will drive sales!
• If you are a KFDA member, do you have your "Proud Partner" decal on display? If you are not a KFDA member, well ... you know what to do! In either case, contact KFDA and we'll get you set up!
